Beneficial Bacteria Pond Treatments

Beneficial BacteriaThe secret to Balancing Your Pond lies in the proper usage of beneficial bacteria pond treatments. Beneficial bacteria microorganisms do occur naturally in our water gardens, fish ponds and hybrid koi ponds but still need additional treatment each week to sustain pristine water quality. The beneficial pond bacteria are responsible for maintaining crystal clear healthy water; break down organic waste - in the form of sludge, and breaks down ammonia - from fish waste. There are several commercial pond treatment brands of beneficial pond bacteria available on the market today to help you balance your pond, so let me explain how to treat you pond with beneficial bacteria: When, Where, Why and How, not necessarily in that order.

We will be repeatedly using the terminology BENEFICIAL POND BACTERIA because it is important for us to get it across to everyone that the bacterium we use is BENEFICIAL and more importantly to let you know that there is some bacteria that is manufactured & designed for septic tanks. This bacteria treatment product is NOT for your pond! The bacterium that you can find at the local hardware store for dirt-cheap prices, is packaged for treating septic tank and is not always pathogen free. In turn, it is NOT how you want to try and balance your pond!

Wouldn't it be awful to be adding a bacterium to your pond that contained e. coli? Many people ask us, "What pond chemical or what fish pond chemical should I use to clean up my pond?" We only suggest using pond water treatments that have been DESIGNED FOR PONDS with specific, organic enzymes and beneficial bacteria to help you maintain crystal clear water in your pond. Make the right choice and only purchase high quality beneficial pond bacteria for "balancing your pond". Not all pond bacteria products are created equally! We have several different pond bacteria products that are DESIGNED FOR PONDS and their specific needs.

Beneficial Pond Bacteria

Beneficial Bacteria

The Pond Digger Brand Beneficial Bacteria has an All Season label that has become our staple bacteria product used across America to maintain balance and crystal clear water in water gardens, Koi ponds, and lakes. We recommend using this dissolvable bacteria in your pond on a weekly basis to ensure optimal water quality and clarity throughout most of the year. Add this beneficial bacteria to your pond WEEKLY even when your pond looks it's best. One of the most common made mistakes that pond owners make is to stop adding their routine water treatments when the pond looks amazing! Just because your pond looks great doesn't mean you stop adding your water treatments! Crystal Clear water doesn't necessarily mean you have Pristine Clean Water! Keep your routine and add this powdered bacteria to your pond weekly!

For OPTIMAL Results we suggest sprinkling this powdered bacteria around the perimeter of your waterscape, broadcasting some of the powder out into the middle of the pond and in front of your skimmer or pump intake that leads to your biological filter. The bacteria you sprinkle around the perimeter of the pond and that is broadcasted out to the middle of the pond will immediately dissolve and sink to the bottom of the pond and work on the debris and sludge that typically plagues the bottom ends of most ponds.

For OPTIMAL Water Quality, use this product in conjunction with The Pond Digger Brand Liquid Bacteria.

For OPTIMAL Water Quality, use this product WEEKLY in conjunction with The Pond Digger Brand Dissolvable Powdered Bacteria. We suggest that you rely on both liquid bacteria and dissolvable powdered bacteria to manage your pond's water quality. You will find MAXIMUM sludge eating possibilities in our powdered bacteria because it is fortified with enzymes that help break down and digest build up in the bottom of your pond while the liquid bacteria is fast acting and works away to neutralize AMMONIA!

When: On NEW PONDS we suggest adding quality nitrifying liquid bacteria to your water garden, pond or koi pond in order to inoculate the filtration system and establish a large enough colony of beneficial bacteria to break down ammonia and nitrites that your fish will be producing, ultimately balancing your pond.

We recommend treating your pond with The Pond Digger Brand Liquid Bacteria, to NEW PONDS DAILY for 14 DAYS and then WEEKLY treatments for the first couple of months while the pond is becoming an established eco-system. Once the pond's ecosystem is established you can treat the pond ONCE A MONTH at a minimum to help you manage pristine clean water for your fish. There are several different strains of beneficial bacteria in The Pond Digger Brand Liquid Bacteria that are specialist in helping your pond through the tough new pond stage. It is important for everyone to remember new ponds need to be treated differently than established eco-system ponds.

Liquid BacteriaThe Pond Digger Brand Liquid Bacteria comes in a bottle that has a built in measuring device that allows you to add the product to your pond in a quick, easy and efficient manner without spilling a single drop. We recommend that you add liquid bacteria to your pond in front of the pond's skimmer or pump intake so that the liquid bacteria may be delivered directly to your biological filtration.

On ESTABLISHED PONDS that are heavily stocked with fish, we recommend using The Pond Digger Brand liquid Bacteria throughout the season WEEKLY to help control ammonia spikes that could be caused at feeding times, while using The Pond Digger Brand Dissolvable Powdered Beneficial Bacteria for optimal results to control sediment, debris and sludge across the bottom of your pond. The Pond Digger Brand liquid bacteria is extremely effective at reducing ammonia in pond water while The Pond Digger Brand Powdered bacteria is fortified with enzymes to help manage sediment, leaves, and sludge across the bottom of your pond.

How to balance your pond on ESTABLISHED water gardens, koi ponds, and lakes we suggest doing a maintenance dose of liquid nitrifying bacteria at least ONCE A MONTH in addition to The Pond Digger Brand Powdered or dry Beneficial Pond Bacteria, that you should be adding ONCE A WEEK.

How To help balance TROUBLED PONDS that are experiencing a phase or ponds that have been drained for spring-cleaning or simply after adding several new fish to the pond we suggest treating the pond like a NEW POND with The Pond Digger Brand Liquid Bacteria and our SUPER STRENGTH Beneficial Bacteria.

Where & How: Where, is and important part of the water treatment process. We advise that when adding liquid bacteria, you pour the bacteria directly in front of your skimmer or pump intake so that the nitrifying bacteria heads straight to the filter(s).

When adding powdered or dry bacteria we suggest sprinkling the powdered bacteria directly into the water around the perimeter of your pond in addition to broadcasting the powder out to the middle of your pond. Our dissolvable powdered blend of beneficial bacteria will start to dissolve immediately and sink to the bottom of the pond where it can get to work managing solids where they typically build up!

Another way to apply the powdered bacteria to your pond is by putting the dissolvable powdered bacteria in a bucket of pond water or a watering can and pouring the mixed solution of bacteria around the edges of the pond and up the stream if you are lucky enough to have a stream.

It is our philosophy to feed the liquid bacteria to the filters to break down ammonia and nitrites produced by fish and we feed the powdered or dry bacteria to the pond so it can colonize in the gravel beds and aquatic plant roots. These stains of bacteria are designed to break down organic debris in your pond such as leafs, decaying pine needles, fish waste and generally most windblown debris that doesn't get picked up in your pond skimmer.

Why: Why, is the famous question, do we have to add beneficial pond bacteria to our water gardens and koi ponds if it occurs naturally? Well that's a good question. When you have a new water garden or a troubled pond going through a seasonal cycle it is important to inoculate the pond with bacteria to help shorten the natural process in order to make the enclosed ecosystem safe for fish as soon as possible.

Beneficial Pond Water TreatmentsThe keyword above is ENCLOSED eco-system. Most people simply don't handle gross dirty pond water very well and in our enclosed eco-system ponds and water gardens we typically overstock and ove rfeed our fish population, which increases organics, leading to gross, dirty water! Turn gross, dirty pond water into pristine pond water with The Pond Digger Brand Water Treatments.

Learn here how feeding your fish The Pond Digger Brand Premium Fish Food can help balance your pond! If you simply get on a routine and apply maintenance doses of beneficial pond bacteria on a regular basis you will have crystal clear, clean, healthy water year round and you will no longer be asking how to balance your pond!

If you are experiencing heavy sediment and debris in your waterfalls and streams, you can use a couple different products along with your beneficial pond bacteria to help manage this build up. Some of the pond products take up to 30 days to respond and then we have some oxygen based treatments that respond in as little as one week. We also recommend using Barley Straw or better yet, barley straw extract as a part of your routine maintenance to maintain pristine water quality in your pond.

Hopefully these helpful tips have helped close the door on the popular question, "How To Balance Your Pond".
