I looked into resizing pictures in Paint. It is possible, but that program isn't designed for that purpose. I can give you the instructions if you'd like, but while researching I found several people suggesting this free program to resize photos.

If you try downloading this and still have trouble let me know and I'll install it on one of our computers and see what you need to do. FYI, the screen shot on the linked page is set up with the options you'll want (i.e. Custom size, Maintain Aspect Ratio (you can use 640 instead of 600), jpg).

hey Connie, I down loaded this web page but have'nt had the time to go into it and play with it, looks really interesting though. Found out I have to go into ( ulead photo express SE ) to downsize my pics, tried last nite but had no luck, picts don't want to save in smaller size, guess i'm doing something wrong :dizzy:. It asks me about pixels in inches and cm and I'm not understanding really what to do / change to ? also wallet sixe / card size..... have'nt figured this out yet ? :dizzy: I guess lol. But thanx for the info, appreciate it ! Sue

Well, let me know what operating system you're using (Windows XP, Vista, MacOSX, etc.). Did your camera come with any software? What paint program do you have? I'll see what I can find out for you.

I really wasn't talking about you... Eric just suggested that I could post instructions. I don't mind resizing photos. I work at the computer all day and it gives me a break from my other projects, it just that sometimes I'm on deadline and don't see them when you first put them up.

hey Connie,
I'm guessing that u fixed my pics, thank-you sweetie for doing that... I'm still trying in ( ulead photo express se ) but I think I need some guidance in the procedure.. can you please help when you get some free time in your busy day... appreciate all thanx again

Sue,

If you have the version of Ulead Photo Express SE that I found and downloaded a trial version of, you go into the edit mode and then click on "adjust" and then "re-size" from the pull-down. On the left you'll see a box. Use "User defined" and make the units "pixels". Make sure that "Keep Apect Ratio" is clicked. Then change the largest number in the boxes above "pixels" to 640 and click "apply" on the bottom. The goal is to resize the photo to approximately 640 x 480 pixels. (If the photo has been cropped and isn't in the original proportions then the 480 may be a different number.)

I hope this helps.

Connie

As expected, Vista is being its usual uncooperative self. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can install this? I can save the zipped file to my C drive. When I try to extract all, the system saves it to C:\Program Files\PIXresizer. I cannot do anything with it at that point. I've changed my system to "Installation Mode" and clicked all of the "Continue" buttons Vista throws my way, but the system keeps telling me that the location I'm trying is on my hard drive (duh!) or not available. I've unblocked everything there too.
Thanks, Orful

You shouldn't need to put in photo bucket. What file format were you trying to upload? If you'd like, I can PM you my email address and you can send me the file you tried to upload. I'll look at it and see if I can tell why it says it's invalid.

I have been resizing and doing minor edits using Picasa. It is Google's free software and works very well. I also use it as my software to download images from the camera and as the picture viewer.

Here is a simple slide show I did with Picasa last week on some before and after landscape photos. Click on the slide show button on the top left. I have not had time to do fades etc, but it can do that too.

Have fun playing with it on those rainy days. It has not rained here for about 3 months.

What a wonderful transformation, Neighborhood Nursery! You should post this slide show where more people will be likely to see it. I hope you'll display more of your work soon!

Glad that worked. :cheerleader:

I like the bog idea. It is very much like the one I built with the filter I posted here- viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1523

I actually used half the pond as a bog and anther 15% as the upflow filter. The rest of the area is left deep enough so the fish that are in there are safe from predators that will hide in the bog.

You can really increase the variety of plants in your ecosystem this way.
