Hey Everyone,

I'm going to be at Newell Nurseries in Yucaipa, California TALKING PONDS on Saturday, June 20th from 10am to Noon.

TOPICS
- Eco-system Ponds and what makes them tick.
- Terrestrial plants that do well in aquatic environments. We'll walk the nursery and I'll pull WELL over a dozen terrestrials that do well in a water garden!
- Whiskey Barrel Water Gardens. We will be building a whiskey barrel water garden and covering all the basics for container water gardens.

There will be a raffle and I'll be giving out a pile of water treatment & fish food samples. Be there or be square.

Will you list the plants selected for those of us who can't attend? Maybe take pictures of them.

We had a good turn out at the event. We found over two dozen terrestrials at the nursery that do well in the water. Keep in mind the flipside of that is, they had several water plants that actually do well on land. The nursery took notes and will produce a list for us.

Here is a grouping of photos I pulled out of the terrestrials that look hot together in a pond, water garden or container. Giant Taro, Tropicanna Canna and the CLASSIC aquatic plant, HORSETAIL.

This was a sample for the container water gardening segment of the seminar.

Thanks for posting pictures, Pond Digger. Can't wait to see the plant list, and I don't want to miss your next water garden seminar!

Have you used the Smart Pots for aquatic plants? They're the rigid fabric pots that are supposed to allow better permeability for healthier roots. They also claim to keep the pond water cleaner by keeping the soil in.

Most all of the aquatic plants we install go right into rocks and gravel of an eco-system pond. Let those roots get to the nutrients in the pond.

This is the couple that guessed the closest number of terrestrial plants we would find in the nursery. They got to take home a plant a piece. I really wanted that Taro. It was the only one on the property!
