I purchased a new lily a couple of months ago, since my previous lilies don't survive the pond construction. The variety I purchased is spouting small lilies on the leaves when they die. I put a couple in the stream area to see if they will grow into full plants. Not sure what I am going to with them if the sprouts survive. My previous lilies didn't do this, is this common?

Yes, it is common for certain varieties of water lilies to propagate from the leaves. In nature, some of the leaves that break off with these young plants, float away and establish themselves in a new location.

You can increase your lily quantities quickly this way. Just plant the leaf with the new roots forming on the underside into an appropriate container.

Have fun.

I just cleaned out my skimmer and pulled out 4 small lilies. I don't know why I am saving them. :hehe:

They are TROPICALS! Maybe Froglover will have you send her one. You should consider making it out to the HUMPTY DUMPTY HOUSE Seminar and bringing those TROPICAL LILIES with you.

What color Flowers come off that water lily. I bet they are amazing.

We'd love that. We enjoy having visitors at Humpty Dumpty House, and water lilies or lotuses are going to be a must for our gorgeous new pond!

Will lilies do okay with constant water movement from the aeration systems? I keep mine going pretty much all the time.
